Hoogvliet, Netherlands

This research was specifically pointed at the northern edge of the satellite town Hoogvliet near Rotterdam. There was a search for different possibility’s for extending the housing estate between the centre of the district Nieuw-Engeland and the petroleum harbour within the industrial site of Shell-Pernis.
The chosen location was analysed by making some longitudinal sections. By doing so the location appeared to accommodate an interesting sequence of autonomous landscapes. The qualities within this area are strongly separated and don’t do anything for each other. After different studies the connection between the programs fulfil the conditions because of separate qualities. This causes a hybrid program of old and new, leaving the history of the area as it is, and introducing a brand new housing estate in the city. This could be attractive for yuppies who would like to live close to the bigger city’s but enjoy the piece and quietness that a satellite town can provide combined with the wonderful view over the water.
