“In order for the light to shine so brightly, the darkness must be present.” Francis Bacon

For a villa in Wassenaar a light plan was designed and implemented containing 69 new chandeliers spread over 16 rooms. The chandeliers made out of Bohemian crystal vary in size between 240 and 40 centimeters in length”, and every piece is covered in glass in so called “Marie Therese” style. Due to the minimum ceiling height all armatures were vertically and horizontally deformed to create the right scale.

As the quote of Bacon suggests it is not just light that can light a room in a beautiful way. Light and darkness are both the ingredients necessary to produce thousands of shades of grey. The chandelier is therefore a good example of a way to create such beauty.
